Foundations are what we are built upon
The binding strength that makes us tighten and strengthen
Lengthens us to stand tall when we are feeling small
The ever present source that ties us, binds us, secures us to the earth’s crust.
That without, gravity will elapse, reality will collapse, and perhaps, despite facts.
Space will beckon.
Without foundations, we would float high above, on linear journeys.
Without hope or courage.

This is what happens when you paint a room white and let children go crazy with stickers. Well effective!
Sir Ken Robinson talks about: Do schools kill creativity? Lovely and inspiring talk for TED. Check out TED if you haven’t heard of it.
Just confirmed as the support for Ben Howard on his 2012 UK Tour, Daughter delivers soul splintering waves of heart melting intensity. Reinventing folk and keeping it fresh. Kind of like a female Bon Iver/ James Blake thing going on with a bit of the XX thrown in for good measure. Enjoy.

Trying to write a review of a gig that happened on a Friday, then spending two further days drinking mulled cider and copious other combinations of festivities, is a difficult task.
Having legged it from Angel tube station; (the wrong way for 10 minutes because of the bearded idiot flyering for Propaganda) I finally found the Lexington. It was a freezing night and upon entering the upper realms I realised my three jumpers were causing me to look;
a) very muscularly developed and
b) like I was having a heart attack.
I hadn’t missed them. Ash (Handsome guitar man) was onstage restarting his Mac, looking at the sound engineer with that look:
“Trust me, its gonna work”
Sound engineers silent response said:
“Dude you were due on stage 5 minutes ago and the promoter is giving me shit, so HURRY UP!”
At this point I will apologise for boring you with the mundane facts of my life, but hey it’s Christmas! Let’s get with the review then…
The crowd moves forwards, loads of people are here, and plenty interested in PB. There was an air of curiosity about this band. Plenty of whispers of ‘Raise Your Weapon…… Deadmau5….. whisper whisper…’
Rocking a more sophisticated look, a more mature Picture Book treated us to a display of the different weapons in their armoury. It was most eclectic set I have ever seen them play. There was a new air of self confidence in this band, who have been working their behinds off over the last year, writing as much as possible. There were new slower numbers tonight, with Dario sticking up for the male race in that we CAN multi-task. Well HE can. Playing one beat on the normal drums, adding flavours of electronics with his spare hand and the odd keyboard lick, just to make sure we were truely made spell bound by his cross brain/ arm correspondence.
Highlights were the downbeat/ stripped back interlude of the infamous grammy nominated Deadmau5 track ‘Raise Your Weapon.’ That got the cynical, stoney faced londoners, smiling and singing along. In fact this was the melting point in the gig. Greta beckoned the crowd forward and they hit us with ‘Surrender’ which is radio cross over hit in the making. There was another new one in there, again it had new elements and flavours to it. Their sound is no longer just motoring down the electro club pop highway but crossing into more experimental indie wanderings. With Dario now playing acoustic drums Picture Book are a far more intricate and groove laden band to watch. There seems to be greater soul and feel to their music: now the electro drum triggers have been sidelined.
The set was brought to a beautiful conclusion with (in my humble opinion) their best track. ‘My Love.’ It is one of those songs that seems to flow effortlessly, every time the chorus ‘you can be my love, my love, my only love…’ comes around you want to sing it until the sun comes up. As the song comes to a close, the crowd all feel a bit of the love, and hopefully they went home and got on PB website and scored a free download of ‘Surrender’ like I did today.
Go here for a free download of their stomping track ‘Surrender.’
Lastly the mighty 360 nice and naked for you!
